Welcome to my very, very, new site. I am a female late diagnosed autistic and ADHD academic, finding my way with new knowledge about who I am and what that means for me. I’d like to share my experiences and have bought a domain name for “The AuDHD Academic”.

There’s not a lot here right now, and I will be developing the content over the next few weeks. Come back soon!

By The AuDHD Academic

I am a late diagnosed autistic ADHD person (AuDHD). I've worked in UK higher education for over 20 years and I have a passion for teaching and learning practice. I'm currently in a senior leadership role in a large UK university. I'm staying anonymous as I find my way with my new diagnosis and what that means for me.

  1. Dear you, Thankyou so much for writing this. I find it really valuable. I am an AuDHD person who avoids the academy where possible, to protect myself. I am also a counsellor with many ND clients and friends.
I hope you have many useful responses. Getting the diagnosis —late, and last year — changed my life. I understand me now — often shockingly. And I wonder how best to be with AuDHD academic colleagues who haven’t a clue that there is something urgent they need to know about themselves. I do find having an executive functioning coach very useful.
Thank you again for what you wrote. I hope you have some ease.

    1. Thank you Jo. It was a life altering moment for me too. I felt such validation, compassion, and affirmation getting the diagnoses. My struggles with ‘coming out’ at work remain but I take small steps every day.
